For 35-year-old Pooja Vashisht,
losing weight became a thing of prime importance after her weight started taking a toll on her health. Hailing from a small town, she had to face a lot of criticism for spending time on her fitness. But her unmatched dedication, hard-work and her husband’s support finally helped her to get back in shape. Pooja lost 14 kilos in about one year. Here’s her journey from fat to fab.
Name: Pooja Vashisht
Occupation: Fitness trainer
Age: 35
Highest weight recorded: 60 kilos
Weight lost: 14 kilos
Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 year
The turning point: After giving birth to my second child, I had health issues because of being overweight. At this time, my sister introduced me to a fitness group, which really helped me get motivated. This changed things for me and I decided to lose weight and be fit.
My breakfast: Oats in any form, like pancakes, porridge, upma/egg whites with veggies
Lunch: Brown rice/white rice with dal and curd
Dinner: Mostly sautéed vegetables with paneer or tofu
Cheat meal: My cheat day is Sunday, where I mostly eat a cheesecake or a brownie.
My workout: I do weight training four times a week and two days of high-intensity interval training
Low - carb recipes I swear by: Cauliflower fried rice with egg or paneer
Fitness secrets unveiled
: I don't eat processed foods and keep my diet as clean as possible. I never skip my breakfast and always include some protein-rich foods in every meal. I try to hit my protein macro every day and most importantly, I eat lots of green veggies, especially broccoli. And obviously, water goes without saying.
How do I stay motivated: The foremost reason for my motivation is my kids because with me, they are also following a healthy lifestyle. The second thing is my profession, being a trainer myself, I need to be healthy.
To stay focused, I plan everything in advance (diet+workout) for the whole week and follow it accordingly.
The most difficult part of being overweight: I was not able to take care of my kids because of being low on energy. I was not comfortable with my own body and was so depressed that I avoided to go out with my family.
Lifestyle changes I made: I am living a healthy lifestyle now along with being more disciplined. Also, I believe that now I am strong enough to achieve my goals.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? After 10 years, I would like to see me as an athlete with a more muscular body.
What was the lowest point for you: I belong to a small place and here, after getting married and having kids, you are not supposed to spend time on fitness. So, I have faced so much criticism for my choices. But thankfully, my husband was with me and he helped me a lot to fulfill my dreams.
Lessons learnt from weight loss: Staying fit is not difficult. All we need is dedication and hard work.
