Trying to lose weight? These are the most unfulfilling foods you can eat, according to a nutritionist

When it comes to crushing hunger, it’s not when you eat but choosing the wrong meal (no matter the size) that can leave you hankering for more.

If you want to lose weight, curb your appetite by avoiding these foods that make you hungrier:

SALTY SNACKS

According to one study, saltier meals and snacks cause people to consume more calories.

It’s true — once you pop, you can’t stop. Snacks preserved with sodium are generally highly refined, without filling you up.

12 WAYS TO SPEED UP WEIGHT LOSS, ACCORDING TO AN EXPERT

Salty cravings seem to influence how much people eat, too. One study showed that added salt makes people eat more food and calories, regardless of how much fat was in the meal.

Besides, all that sodium leaves you thirsty. Thirst can often be mistaken for hunger, tricking your body into eating more instead of grabbing a glass of water.

SALADS

Your choice of salad ingredients may be detrimental to your weight-loss efforts.

Salads are the epitome of diet-friendly lunches — but if your salad is all kale, cucumber and spinach, odds are you’re not getting enough satisfying sustenance to keep you going until dinner.

Give your salad more punch with a topping of protein (boiled eggs, chicken, salmon, or legumes), topped with slow-burning carbs (like roasted sweet potato, corn or brown rice) and little fat (feta, nuts, seeds, tahini or avocado).

Don’t be afraid of these healthy foods — just add a reasonable balance of each and enjoy the feeling of satisfaction. No brownie temptations later.

RICE CRACKERS

Think an entire packet of rice crackers at the 3 p.m. slump are going to tide you over ’til dinner? Think again.

Rice crackers contain small traces of fiber and they’re made from highly refined rice that make our insulin levels spike, causing blood sugar to crash, making us feel hungry again — even if we’ve just eaten.

If you can’t beat the crunch, you’re better off choosing whole-grain varieties and topping them with avocado, nut butter or hummus for a more balanced, satiating snack.

JUICES

Juices are a big part of today's most popular diets, but they likely won't keep you full.

(iStock)

Juice cleansing has become a popular way to lose the weight fast, and while you will be sipping on a wonderful antioxidant-rich and hydrating elixir, the lack of fiber means your body absorbs the calories quicker.

If you want to stay full, chew your calories instead, so your brain receives the hunger-combating cues that help you get from meal to meal.

ALCOHOL

Research has shown that alcohol flicks the brain into starvation mode. This increases your appetite and explains why we reach for a greasy snack after a night on the town.

What’s more, alcohol calories can’t be stored in the body, so the only way you can dispose of alcohol is to metabolize it for energy.

This means that anything you’re eating at the same time or shortly afterwards is going to be preferentially stored. So avoid binge drinking if you want to avoid binge eating.

THE TAKEAWAY: WINNING AT HUNGER

Whether it’s from intense exercise, stress, or lack of sleep, everyone has days of increased hunger. However, the best way to curb the cravings is to include the hunger-fighting combo of fiber-rich carbs and protein in each meal, as protein has staying power — keeping you fuller for longer — and fiber-rich carbs digest slowly so your blood sugar levels stay steady.

“We make no bones about the program being rigorous, tough and strenuous and people really want a lifestyle change and they want to learn about good habits and how to have great, energetic longevity in their lives," said Alex Glasscock, who co-founded the resort with his wife, Sue Glasscock. "It’s a self-selecting program and we’re here to help guests get through it and leave feeling a better, younger you."

The resort is where actress Rebel Wilson claims to have lost eight pounds over a long weekend and where stars from Brooke Shields to Mandy Moore, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett and Elle MacPherson have sought refuge from the spotlight.

Even though a week's stay at the all-inclusive resort will cost you $7,800, it is not just celebrities who visit.

"The types of guests who come here include multi-tasking mothers of multi-children and the moms finally want to take time for themselves," said Glasscock. "Then we also have corporate executives that come because they need to unplug from their crazy, busy schedules ... people who are going through life-changing events ... [and] young people who are graduating from high school or college who want to learn about nutrition and good habits before they go out into the real world."

Set on 200 lush acres in Malibu, the resort serves a clientele that is 75 percent women and ranges in age from 18 to 41.

"People of all physical abilities come here," Glasscock noted. "People ... go on to lose 75 or 100 pounds in the next year after coming to The Ranch."

The week-long retreat is about more than just weight loss. It’s also designed to help people kick-start new habits and learn a holistic approach to life.

Here is a day in the life at The Ranch.

Early wake up

Guests are woken up at 5:30 a.m. by the sound of Tibetan chimes.

During the hike, guests get a snack: Exactly six organic almonds.

Once hiking time ends, guests' tired feet are treated with either an Epsom salt or ice cold foot bath.

Lunch

Guests are treated to a 1,400-calorie baseline plant-based nutritional menu each day, according to Glasscock.

“The food is nutritionally dense," he explained. "We’re very conscious about the aesthetic of the food, the texture, the chewability of the food because we know we’re limiting the guests to food they may not typically eat in their everyday life so we want to make sure that the food is fun."

"[The chewability] also wears you out while you’re eating it so you don’t want more," he pointed out.

Nap time

Just like the daily hike, nap time at The Ranch is mandatory.

"You don't have to go to sleep but you do have to rest," Glasscock explained.

Back to exercise

It's back to the gym after nap time at The Ranch.

In the afternoon, workouts are focused on upper body and core strength.

Guests have the option to stay up as late as they'd want, but after the day's activities, most guests are asleep by 9 p.m. at the latest, Glasscok said.

Bonus

When guests at The Ranch have down time -- of which there isn't much -- they can relax by the pool (which is also the site of workout classes), say hello to the property's famous goats, visit the organic garden or sit in one of the property's many relaxation areas.

Proven Ways To Lose Stubborn Belly Fat

‘How do I lose my Belly Fat?’ probably is one question that each one of us have asked at least once from a fit colleague or a fitness expert. As per experts, a toned midsection partly depends on your genetics; however, there are other factors (apart from doing ab exercises) that can help you achieve a flat belly. Let’s delve:

1. Green Tea

Green Tea might sound overrated but it isn’t. As per Jay Bradley, Wellness and Health Coach, Green Tea has proven to burn fat and reduce belly size. It directly works on reducing your excess weight, thanks to its EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) compound that aids thermogenesis aka fat burning process. However, just sipping a cup or two doesn’t really reduce belly fat. You must take at least two capsules of Green Tea supplement (decaffeinated) to witness changes.

2. Good Fats

Include good fats aka unsaturated fats found in coconut, fish, nuts and seeds, olive oil, etc to stay satiated for longer intervals and further aid the fat burning process.

3. Stress Less

Stress less and sleep more. Your body releases cortisol when you stress and cortisol gathers fat around your belly. On the other hand, during sleep, your body burns the stored fat. A good night’s sleep improves your satiety levels and makes you less vulnerable to sugar cravings too.

4. Interval Training

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is the best exercise for burning stubborn belly fat. Aim at sparing 30 minutes each day at least 3 times a week to begin your overall weight loss journey, and increase it to 45-60 minutes 3-4 times a week. To get started, you can switch between jog and sprint. Watch this video to seriously lose belly fat, faster!

How Using a Yoga Wheel Like Kate Hudson Can Help You Stretch More Deeply

Even while pregnant, Kate Hudson manages to pull off advanced exercises and yoga moves. The Fabletics founder posed for a "first trimester photo shoot" poolside in mint green gear. But instead of a "bed and a bucket," as she wrote in her Instagram caption, she balanced on a yoga wheel with exactly zero(!) feet on the ground.

You can check it out on Instagram, via @katehudson, here:

You may or may not have seen a yoga wheel hanging out by the blocks and straps at your yoga studio, but trainers encourage the wheel for both advanced and restorative yoga postures. The yoga wheel can help "deepen one’s yoga practice as well as assist in various poses," NYC-based yoga instructor and certified personal trainer Alex Silver-Fagan tells SELF. Like other yoga props, the wheel quite literally can help deepen a stretch or make certain poses more accessible to you.

A yoga wheel is especially great for stretching out your back and chest.

"If using a yoga wheel consistently throughout your practice, eventually your body will gain more mobility and flexibility, specifically in the spine," Silver-Fagan says. She recommends adding the wheel to Supta Badda Konasana, or Reclining Bound Angle pose, in which you bring the soles of your feet together and let your knees fall apart toward the floor. "Lean back onto the wheel, placing your spine along its curve, to help deepen the [chest-opening effect] and add more mobility in your backbend," says Silver-Fagan.

As in Hudson's Instagram, the wheel can also serve as an unstable surface that will help challenge your balance and core strength.

In her Instagram post, Hudson is using the wheel to advance a three-legged table top position. She has her hands on the ground, wrists stacked directly underneath her shoulders (like a plank), and one knee on the wheel. She's lifting the other leg up and down to target her glutes. According to Omri Kleinberger, yoga instructor at bodē nyc, "lifting the leg up from this position stretches the hip flexors, strengthens the glutes, and engages the shoulders and chest for upper-body strength and stability."

Balancing on the wheel and still maintaining proper form throughout the movement demands a lot of your core—making the wheel a great tool for training core stability. "I'd call this an exercise [instead of a yoga pose]," says Lara Gobins, yoga instructor and general manager at CorePower Yoga in Brooklyn, New York. "It's very challenging, but I wouldn't say it's not accessible. It takes a lot of core stability, which obviously [Hudson] has." Gobins recommends the exercise only for somebody who already is comfortable with both yoga and strength training.

But most people turn to the yoga wheel for increased flexibility, rather than a challenging workout.

"The wheel works with the natural curvature of your spine, rather than a square firm foundation of a block," says Gobins. This can help you roll out to deeper positions more comfortably.

Beyond adding it to Reclining Bound Angle, there are a few other ways you can use the wheel to increase flexibility. Try incorporating the yoga wheel into your bridge pose, says Gobins. Start with both feet flat on the floor with your knees bent. Then, raise your hips as if you were moving into bridge pose and drape your low back along the wheel. Adding the wheel helps open up and stretch your chest, pecs, and belly even more.

The wheel can also help you get deeper into lower-body stretches. Start with a lunge, with one knee forward and the back knee resting on the ground. Then, lift your back knee and place the top of your foot on the wheel. Walk your front foot forward for a really intense quad and psoas (the biggest hip flexor muscle) stretch. This one takes a little more poise, Gobins says, so only do it if you can maintain stability in your core throughout.

The yoga wheel is especially beneficial for anyone who spends "a big part of their day in a hunched forward position either sitting or on their phone," says Kleinberger, since it helps extend your spine and open up your chest—basically the opposite position you've been in all day. Next time your spine is feeling tight, wheel it right open for a little bit of relief.

The Food Kourtney Kardashian Ate On Her Keto Diet

It’s the low carb, high fat diet that triggers weight loss—fast.

By Erin Cook

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on

You'd be hard pressed to find a photograph of Kourtney Kardashian where she doesn't look like a lean, mean, fashion-forward machine.

The 39-year-old takes her health seriously. So seriously, in fact, she sticks to organic food, steers clear of gluten and is more than willing to put her body on the line for a buzzy new wellness trend.

We can't say we were surprised when Kourtney revealed via her app (where else?) that she did the ketogenic diet in 2017. Also known as the keto diet, the ketogenic diet is 2018's answer to Atkins. It's not for the faint-hearted but on the whole, Kourt found it to be a "really positive experience."

The ketogenic diet is a very low carb, high fat diet. Rice, pasta, legumes, sugar and starchy vegetables are out; lean meat, eggs, cheese and low carb vegetables are in.

Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) Dietitian Vicky Kuriel offers six week monitored low carb programs from Melbourne health and wellness clinic, Eat Play Thrive. "The keto diet is a specific combination of macronutrients (carbohydrate, protein and fat) that allows an individual to enter into a state of nutritional ketosis," Kuriel explains.

"Typically, this involves a significant reduction in carbohydrate, moderate amounts of protein and an increase in fat. In most individuals, nutritional ketosis can be achieved with a total carb intake of less than 50g per day. To keep carb intake below this level all sugary and starchy food needs to be removed from the diet."

While the specifics vary, depending on who is conducting the program, the keto diet generally consists of 70 per cent of calories from healthy fats, 20 per cent from protein, and 10 per cent from carbs.

The transition from a normal diet to a very low carb diet can be hard: side effects include headaches and low energy. "I pushed through this phase, which took a good week or two," Kourt explained via her app. "I also did a 'treat yourself' day once a week, which really helped get me get through the few months that I did this diet."

As always, before going on the ketogenic diet—or any other diet, for that matter—consult your GP.

When you're on the keto diet, fat is your key source of energy, rather than carbs. "[Ketosis] is the state that we will default to in the absence of food for an extended period of time," Kuriel clarifies. "It is also a state we will enter into when carbohydrates are significantly reduced in our diet. The reduced levels of carbohydrates forces our bodies to find an alternative fuel source."

When your body breaks down fat for energy, acids called 'ketones' build up in the body. This process is called ketosis. As registered dietitian Cynthia Sass explained to Health, "After three to four days on a ketogenic diet, back-up stores of carbohydrates, called glycogen, become depleted and ketosis kicks in, triggering some weight loss and the appearance of a leaner physique."

Kourtney Kardashian's keto diet breakfast

Every morning, Kourtney starts her day by taking a collagen supplement. "About 20 minutes after the collagen, I usually drink one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar mixed into a glass of water," she says on her website. "Both of these habits have a ton of health benefits that affect everything from your skin to the way your body processes nutrients."

Why apple cider vinegar? For Kourtney, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in the morning helps to curb sugar cravings.

Whilst on the keto diet, Kourtney practiced intermittent fasting. Each day, she would fast from 7pm until after her morning workout, at approximately 10:30/11am. In addition to that, she would also fast for 24 hours one day per week, only drinking bone broth and green tea.

Kourtney is borderline-famous for her interesting breakfast of choice: avocado pudding. Keto diet or no keto diet, the 39-year-old reaches for her signature avocado pudding most mornings. She once shared the recipe on her app; turns out, it's more of an avocado-based smoothie than a pudding and takes less than 10 minutes to make. The recipe consists of: one whole organic avocado, organic cane sugar, half a cup of organic milk and one tablespoon of raw manuka honey. To make her go-to breakfast keto friendly, we imagine Kourtney would have substituted sugar and honey for Stevia.

Kourtney Kardashian's keto diet lunch

For lunch, Kourtney kept it simple with "fresh salads with home made dressing."

"I love salads, so I usually have one for lunch every day with some type of protein added, like chicken or salmon," Kardashian says on her app. "Whenever possible, I try to make my own simple balsamic or ginger dressing since store-bought dressings have lots of unnecessary sugar and preservatives."

She usually drinks a hot green tea right after lunch.

Kourtney Kardashian's keto diet dinner

Carbohydrates are strictly off the menu if you're partaking in the keto diet. That means no bread, rice, noodles, pasta, beans, legumes or starchy vegetables.

Seeing as the reality TV star couldn't add standard rice to her dishes, she created her own carb-free version instead using cauliflower or broccoli. "I often ate grilled chicken and fish over broccoli rice, cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash," Kourtney says on her app, "I [also] mixed in roasted vegetables."

Diwekar’s funda is simple as she advices all of her clients to give extreme dieting a miss and adopt ‘what your grandmother told you’. Basically, home cooked nourishment. Here are some of her best eating routine hacks to enable you to have a more beneficial existence.

Pro tip: NEVER drink caffeine if on an empty stomach

Nothing wakes a person up more than chai or possibly you've been dependent on caffeine for a really long time. In any case, hold up only 15 minutes and eat a banana or a seasonal product, soaked almonds or raisins first and afterward pick some tea or espresso.

Stay away from processed food as much as you can

Enjoy all desi snacks, be it makhanas cooked in ghee or ‘goond ke laddoo’, but try and avoid as much of processed food as you can. These food products contain oils that are awful for the body and consists of unhealthy carbs. So adhere to the healthy carbs of homemade food yet give processed fats a miss.

Ghee is extremely needed for your body

Regardless of whether you're including a spoon of it in your daal, or spread a bit on your ‘parantha’ - it's extremely useful for your well being to devour ghee as long as it's with some restraint.

Fresh food is the best food

Its a widely accepted fact that over cooking of the food makes it lose its natural nutrients. Diwekar suggests that one must always have freshly prepared food at least for breakfast and dinner.

Stay hydrated

To live a healthy life you must always have a good intake of water. It need not be gallons of water that you burst your bladder; just the right amount that helps you flush out your impurities. Rujuta says that urine is an easy indication; if the colour of it is not transparent then you need to have more intake of water.

Dont believe the packaging and what is written on it always

Excess intake of bread whether it is white or brown will not help you in controlling or watching over your weight in any way. The key she says is having smaller meals but frequently and in shorter duration.

We are extremely pumped up reading all these tips and are sure to follow them in order to live a healthy and happy life. Will you follow these tips too? Comment and let us know.
